Welcome a new pupil

Läs Amaras blogg om hur det var att börja i en ny skola i ett nytt land. Skriv sedan ett välkomstmeddelande till en ny elev, och förbättra det.
Så fungerar det
Vi vill få någon som är ny att känna sig välkommen. Ett bra välkomstmeddelande presenterar dig, säger något om skolan och bjuder in: Do you want to sit with us at lunch? Det visar att du menar det.
Ställ också en fråga så att det blir lätt att svara: What are you into? How long have you lived here? Ett vänligt meddelande är kort, tydligt och utan svåra ord. Du kan hitta på den nya eleven.
Do you want to hang out with us after school? Det betyder: vill du umgås med oss efter skolan?
My first month in Leeds
Hi, I'm Amara. I'm thirteen and last month my family moved from Lagos in Nigeria to Leeds in the north of England. I want to write about my first weeks at my new school, because maybe it can help someone else who is new. On my first day I felt really nervous. I already spoke English, but people here talk very fast, and they use words I didn't know, like "buzzing" (very happy) and "knackered" (very tired). At lunch I sat alone in the canteen and pretended to read a book. On the second day a girl called Jess sat down next to me. "You looked a bit lost yesterday," she said. "Do you want to sit with us?" Her friends asked me lots of questions about Nigeria. One of them, Ravi, is into football like me, and now we play together every Wednesday after school. The weather was the biggest shock. It's so cold and grey! Jess lent me her spare gloves until Mum bought me some. Now, after a month, I still miss my old friends, and we video call every Sunday. But I have new friends too, and I'm starting to feel at home. If you see someone sitting alone, say hello. It's a small thing, but it can change someone's week.
