A tradition I know

Uttryck som People do och passiv form som It is celebrated hjälper när du beskriver vad många gör.

Skriv my family eller many people i stället för we, så att läsaren vet vem du menar.

Many people light candles and eat special food.

Eid in our house

My name is Daniya and I live in East London with my parents, my two brothers and my grandmother. Our family is Muslim, and for us the most important celebration of the year is Eid al-Fitr. It comes at the end of Ramadan, a month when many adults don't eat or drink from dawn to sunset. The night before Eid, everyone looks at the sky for the new moon. When it's seen, Eid is announced, and my phone starts buzzing with messages from cousins all over the world. On the morning of Eid we get up early, have a shower and put on new clothes. My grandmother always gives each of us a small envelope with money in it. Then we go to the mosque for special prayers. Afterwards, everyone smiles and says "Eid Mubarak", which means "blessed Eid". The rest of the day is about food and visits. My mum makes biryani and a sweet dish with milk, noodles and dates. We visit relatives and neighbours, and some of our neighbours who aren't Muslim come to our house for dinner. It's a day for sharing, so many families also give food or money to people who need it. At night I'm always tired, full and happy.
