After year 9

I'm good at säger vad du är bra på: I'm good at solving problems. I'd like to och I'm interested in säger vad du vill: I'm interested in working with animals.

Ge skäl och exempel: I'm good at explaining things. For example, I often help my little brother with maths. Du behöver inte ha bestämt dig. Det går lika bra att skriva I'm not sure yet, but I'd like to find out more about …

I'm interested in design, because I love drawing and building things. Det betyder: jag är intresserad av design, eftersom jag älskar att rita och bygga saker.

How I chose

We asked three young people in the UK how they decided what to do after school. Aisha, 17, is training to be an electrician. "At school I wasn't very interested in reading or writing, but I was always good with my hands. I fixed my friends' bikes and helped my uncle when he rewired his kitchen. My teachers wanted me to stay at school, but I chose an apprenticeship. Now I work four days a week and study one day a week, and I get paid. It's hard work, and I'm often the only girl on the building site, but I love it." Tom, 18, is studying to become a nurse. "I didn't know what I wanted to do until my grandmother was ill. I spent a lot of time in the hospital, and I watched the nurses. They were calm, kind and very clever. I thought: that's what I want to do. Now I'm in my first year at university, and next month I start my first placement on a children's ward." Liv, 16, is still deciding. "Everyone asks me what I want to be, and honestly, I don't know yet. I like science and art, and I can't choose between them. My careers adviser told me that's completely normal. She said many people change jobs several times in their lives, and some of the jobs I'll do in the future don't even exist yet. So I've chosen subjects that keep lots of doors open, and I'm trying different things: I volunteer at an animal shelter on Saturdays, and I've started a photography club." Their advice? Think about what you enjoy, not only what you're good at, and talk to people who do the job.
